Literato británico. Sirvió como oficial en el frente occidental durante la primera guerra mundial, y sus tres primeros volúmenes de poesía fueron publicados durante ese tiempo; en ellos figuran algunos de los poemas amorosos ingleses más logrados del siglo. En 1926 comenzó una relación de 13 años con la poetisa estadounidense Laura Riding (
n. 1901–m. 1991), con quien fundó una editorial, publicó brevemente una revista y colaboró literariamente. Después de 1929 residió principalmente en Mallorca, España. Los más famosos de sus más de 120 libros son
